Boosted Proposal

A boosted proposal is a proposal you pay additional Connects to promote, placing it at or near the top of the client's proposal list. Boosting costs extra Connects beyond the standard application fee. It can increase visibility in competitive job posts where many proposals are expected, but it does not change the content of your proposal - a boosted weak proposal still loses to a strong unboozted one. Boosting makes the most sense for high-value opportunities where the extra Connects are worth paying for guaranteed placement.

A boosted proposal is a standard Upwork proposal with an added Connects spend that bids for a featured slot at the top of the client's incoming proposals. When a client opens their proposals list, boosted proposals appear first in a dedicated section before the standard queue. The number of Connects you bid determines your placement within the boosted section - higher bids rank above lower bids. The Connects spent on boosting are in addition to the standard cost to apply, and they are not refunded if you do not get hired.

The case for boosting is visibility in high-competition posts. For a job that will attract dozens or hundreds of proposals, being in the standard queue means a client may never scroll to yours. A boost guarantees they see it. If the contract is high-value - a $5,000 project where spending an extra 10 Connects is a trivial cost - boosting can be worth it simply to guarantee consideration. The case against boosting is that it solves the wrong problem for most freelancers. If your proposal is not compelling once a client reads it, placement at the top only means you get rejected first. Boosting is a positioning tool, not a quality substitute.

The practical rule: boost selectively and only when the contract value clearly justifies the additional Connects. A competitive, high-value job where your profile is a strong fit and your proposal is genuinely good is a reasonable boost candidate. A job you are unsure about, or a proposal you have not put real effort into, is not. Most Upwork Income Club members in Stage 7 learn to reserve boosting for their highest-confidence applications rather than using it as a default. The goal is to spend Connects where they convert - and a well-targeted, thoughtful proposal wins far more often than a boosted generic one.
